Master of the Prints

MASTERING THE PRINTS!

7 tips to master the prints:

1Mix & match prints according to colors and textures, not the prints themselves. It’s more about the overall image and strong visuals than getting it right, so forget about everything you knew in fashion, and think about your outfit as a dazzling crazy puzzle that needs to be put together. A painting that makes no sense, if you will, but looks fabulous. office-wear-mixed-prints-summer2. Different textures, BUT mix on the same color palette (different patterns, of slightly same colors). mixed-prints-looksmixed-prints-summer-trend-street-style3. If you’re wearing similar textures you can do different colors and prints, those bold bold styles at Fashion Week for example (skirt in one print, blouse in another and jacket in a totally different one). mixed-prints-summer-look (2)mixing-bold-prints4. Stripes – are the easiest way to mix prints, as they’re the basic definition of a print, which makes them super versatile against any other. They look amazing mixed with:

Instead have fun with it. They look great mixed with:
  • other floral prints (remember: same colors, or same textures)
  • tropical (tricky, but do-able if they’re in the same color palette)
  • stripes
  • graphic
  • black & white
  • dots

Oh, the infamous animal print some love and some hate, is actually a pretty basic print that goes great with most of its siblings:
  • other animal prints
  • stripes
  • checks
  • florals (this is pretty tricky, but I’ve seen it done and it’s worth tones of tries until you get it right)

Accessorising the Hair!

Hair accessories for girls come in many shapes and materials. When it comes to accessorizing the look of young girls, few items can rival the popularity of hair clips, headbands, and stylish ponytail holders.

Ponytail Holders
Ponytail holders are used to fasten hair into a ponytail, especially in the case of long hair. They can usefully secure hair, keeping it away from the face. They come in many shapes and materials, and they generally need to have some elasticity in order to help keep hair tightly in place. They are the most common type of hair accessory and can be used to create many different structured hairstyles, other than ponytails.

Headbands
Headbands are a type of band commonly worn above the forehead. Extremely popular in the 1960s, headbands have been around since the time of the ancient Greeks. They have made several comebacks throughout fashion history, remaining a favorite in little girl fashions for several decades.
Besides their ornamental purposes, headbands are used to hold hair away from the face and eyes. Common headbands come in two basic shapes: a loop of elastic material or a piece of flexible material shaped like a horseshoe.

Tiaras
Some parents like their little girls to look like princesses as much as little girls themselves enjoy it, and tiaras are the number one accessory used to create this type of look. Tiaras can open up many beautiful hairstyle possibilities. For example, a tiara crowning a bun with some loose curls on the sides can create the ultimate princess look.

Hair Claws
Hair claws come in many different sizes, which makes them suitable for different hairstyles. For example, large claws can hold all of a little girl's hair at the back of the head. On the other hand, small claws can hold half-ponytails and tiny portions of hair.

Scrunchies
Scrunchies are basically elastic bands covered by different fabrics in the shape of a tube. The fabric covering them can be anything from simple cotton to elaborate knitwork. The inner band can be made of braided, knitted, or banded elastic. The name scrunchie refers to the way the fabric scrunches around the band. In fact, it is an essential characteristic of this type of accessory that the fabric must always be longer than the elastic inside it.

Bun Nets
Bun nets are often worn by little girls during ballet classes and gymnastics training. They come in different colors to match common hair colors, and some of them feature ornamental clips. They can also be an ideal accessory to put hair up in buns when needed to create more elaborate hairstyles.

Alligator Clips
Alligator clips are also known as crocodile clips. They owe their name to their resemblance to an alligator's jaws, as they feature a hinge at the short end and a long open mouth. To work, the clip is squeezed open from the side of the hinge, inserted into the girl's hair, and then released, thanks to an inner spring.

Bobby Pins
Bobby pins are little pins made of either plastic or metal. Used to hold small portions of hair in place, they date back to the 1920s, when they became fashionable as a sidekick of the jazz age's "bob" hairstyle. Styling bobby pins are simple, with no decorations, and their main purpose is to secure hair. In fact, they are so thin that they are hardly noticeable at times, and they come in different colors that blend in with natural hair shades.

Barrettes
A barrette is a type of clasp used to hold a certain portion of hair in place. It can be made of metal or plastic, often featuring decorations made of fabric and other soft materials. Pressing the two sides of a common barrette opens up the clasp that holds it together, making room for hair to go in.

Feather Extension Accessories
Feather extensions are fun, fashionable accessories for little girls. Parents reluctant to let their young ones dye a portion of their hair, regardless of what fashions may dictate, can let them play safely with multicolored feather extensions
